Launch of FAST Australia FAST Australia opened the ‘doors’ for business in 2010 to promote research and understanding into Angelman Syndrome on our shores. Suncorp Black Tie Dinner The employees of Suncorp Legal Services exceeded all expectations when they raised over $6000 for FAST during a Charity dinner in Brisbane. The amazing dinner was put together by Angelman family member, Emily Lucas (Auntie to Hannah & Alex), who enlisted the help of her fellow employees at Suncorp Legal Services to pitch in to make the night an incredible success. Retro Night @ Soda Tree The Soda Tree Café & its generous owners hosted an intimate event in Montrose Victoria earlier this year with a 50's, 60's, and 70's theme. Wild Turkey, a well-known Melbourne Rockabilly band, generously played at a heavily reduced rate and soon after they started, the dance floor came to life with every one of the 40 guests up and dancing. Organised by board member and AS Parent Jo Davis, door prizes were donated from local businesses such as The Good Guys in Bayswater, Dare to Be Bare in Montrose, Montrose Pharmacy, Max Brown and the Professionals and wine donated from Innocent Bystander winery. A Night at the Races The inaugural 'A Night at the Races' was held in Launceston, Tasmania on Thursday 14 April to raise awareness and money for Angelman Syndrome. The event was created by 'Take Flight' a new group set up in Tasmania that is a sub foundation under the FAST umbrella with all net proceeds raised donated to FAST. Take Flight was established by Launceston-based family, Emma and James Price, parents of 2yo Charlotte. The by-line used in the Take Flight logo is 'Giving Our Angels Wings', this reflects Take Flights goal of raising funds and awareness of Angelman Syndrome to give all of our angels the wings to fly and reach their full potential. This event was the first fundraising and awareness event for Take Flight and attracted more than 310 people to enjoy a night of racing under lights in Launceston. The night featured nine races, six of which were sponsored by Tasmanian based organisations, with the other three races named 'Take Flight', 'Giving Our Angels Wings' and 'Angelman Syndrome'. These races were broadcast live nationally on the night. A raffle was held on the night with some great prizes up for grabs including return helicopter flights with lunch at York Cove in George Town, two night's accommodation at Country Club Tasmania and a 3 month premium membership at Launceston Aquatic, as well as a host of other prizes. Each person attending the night received a 'Gift from the Angels' bag that included some great offers, vouchers and information about Angelman Syndrome and FAST. Money was raised through ticket sales, corporate sponsorship, prize raffle and other donations, resulting in over $13,000 raised for FAST. Just as importantly, over 310 people now know a lot more about Angelman Syndrome.
Brisbane & Melbourne Winter Festivals Due to the overhwleming support of our online community, FAST Australia was selected as the beneficiary for both the Melbourne & the Brisbane Winter Festivals this year. A percentage of the @@@@ event was donated directely to FAST. Families enjoyed free admission (?) and had a great time playing in the snow! Nomination into this competition was suggested and largely driven by mother to two Angelman children; Alex and Hannah. Thankyou Emily! Your efforts earned FAST a whopping ??? in donations. Fighting for Angels Queensland Angelman dad, Troy Crane, has taken his passion for boxing to a new level by establishing the FAST Charity Challenge event. Troy has garnered the support of local community businesses who contributed to the purse for event. Troy won the inaugural bout, and has since defended the title; as a result he has now raised over $5000 for FAST Australia. Now that is truly putting his body on the line in the name of charity! Congratulations Troy on an amazing achievement.
